Who – Adam Ostrosser, composer of popular songs “Retirement Song”, “Manitoulin Island”(from 2002 release “Adam”), and “Book Of You”(from 2011 album “Whatever Stella”).

What – instrumental acoustic guitar track

When – 2019, early morning session between coffee and breakfast

Where – little home studio in Alliston, Ontario

Why – I had committed to writing and recording something each morning when I woke up. We had just realized that we were possibly going to have to accept outside financial help to live. We hadn’t realized how much that would be true.

How – The writing process is a little different with every song. There is music hanging in the air everywhere, you just need to quiet yourself and hear it. Then you can translate it through your instrument, voice or pen. Charity was written as it was recorded, intentionally being as immediate and rough as it liked. Capturing a moment or a characteristic of a musical expression can be as magical as forging a sound into shape, and with the amount of electronically edited music out there right now it seems a good time for something a little rustic.
